Ahoy Sailors and others,
Click the "RACE RESULTS" button above for the Fremont Sailing Club Fall Series Regatta #2, sailed at Shoreline Lake on September 17, 2023. We had 9 boats racing, 5 Lido 14's 2 El Toros, 1 rented Laser and one sailboard (not signed up). The weather was pleasant with good winds of about 8 to 10 mph, maybe more steady than other times at Shoreline. Earl as usual has described the regatta well in his summary, if you didn't get that, contact Earl at [email protected] and he can probably forward it to you.
All boats started together, the elapsed times were measured, and times were adjusted using Portsmouth Handicaps, (the best we could find for the Laser and sailboard) and our own adjustment for the El Toros. You can find tables of Portsmouth numbers on ussailing.org, entering Portsmouth in the search box. Our adjusted numbers are described (somewhat) in the results.
If you find any errors, please reply and let me know (gently). Also, reply with any questions, comments, or suggestions.
I apologize to Sidney Lee for faulty race committee work on my part. At the start of the first race Sidney had some trouble with his boat and was several minutes late crossing the start line. Therefore, he was late finishing. I started the sequence for the second race while Sidney was on the final leg to the finish, so he had to finish during the sequence and then start the second race. Also, I didn’t get a true finish time for him. I should have waited until he finished before starting the second race sequence, it wouldn’t have been all that long. Poor judgement and excessive impatience on my part. Apologies to Sidney. Note that this does not mean that we shouldn't ever start a race before a late comer is there.
Thanks to all the sailors who came out. I hope you had a good time, and will be out for the next and last 2023 regatta on October 15th.
