July 2021 Commodore’s Comments
Our Spring Series of Sailing is now complete. Due to COVID 19, Lake Elizabeth was closed for our 2021 Spring Series of races. After much discussion we moved the series to Shoreline Park in Mountain View. Our turnout was comparable to what we were drawing on Lake Elizabeth in 2019. Shoreline is a saltwater lake about the same size as Lake Elizabeth with a depth of about 15 feet. There is no adequate shoreline access for a race committee to set up and run races from shore. In order to have fairly good racing, the FSC rented a small rowboat for $50.00 per day. The small rowboat (about eight feet in length) allowed two people to be on RC duties with a bare minimum of flags and other equipment. We found that prior rowing experience was an asset. No motors of any kind are allowed on the lake.
We have been informed by the City of Fremont that Lake Elizabeth will be closed for boating for the remainder of 2021. After much discussion among our sailors it has been decided that our Summer Series and possibly our Fall Series will be held on Shoreline Lake in Mountain View.
In order to avoid conflicts with various class organizations below is the latest revised schedule for the remainder of the 2021 season.
Remember all races at Shoreline will start at 11:00 a.m. instead of the 12:00 noon start at Lake Elizabeth. Skipper’s Meeting will be at 10:00 a.m.
Since Governor Newsome has lifted most of the COVID restrictions and most of our local activities are returning back to semi-normal, now is the time to resume your long forgotten sailing activities.
Hope to see you on the water again soon.
