August 2021 Commodores Comments
With Lake Elizabeth being closed for the entire 2021 sailing season the FSC has been sailed its Spring and Summer Series at Shoreline Lake in Mountain View where we will also sail our Fall Series.
Shoreline is an excellent small boat sailing venue being about the same size as Lake Elizabeth, with an average depth of 15 feet or more, recirculating salt water from SF Bay, and steady winds. The lake is on Mt. View property and is run by a very friendly concessionaire. At this time of year there are many moving targets on the lake, sailing classes in Capri 15’s, row-boats, paddle boats (many more that Lake Elizabeth) windsurfers, paddle boards etc.
Both of our Spring and Summer Series were a great success with a fairly good turnout. The Spring series and first part of the summer series saw several El Toro’s as they prepared for their North Americans which was held in Half Moon Bay in early August. Art Lange took second place. Congratulations!
Our Fall Series will be sailed on September 12th, 26th and October 10th. All at Shoreline Lake. Remember our skippers meeting is now at 10:00 AM with a 11:00 starts We usually have been running four or more races per day.
Prior to Covid the FSC stayed connected with regular sailing dates at Lake Elizabeth and monthly pot lucks and fleet get togethers. In March 2020 all of these good times came to a screeching halt as we began various forms of masking and sheltering in place. How do we stay in touch you ask? In mid 2020 the Lido Fleet, under the direction of Earl Thomas began regular Zoom meetings with the Lido Fleet. Since the beginning the Zoom meetings have been open to the entire FSC membership. In addition to reacquainting ourselves with old friends they have been very informative not only with the latest rule changes, but keep abreast of the various ways others are coping with our modern world. I will continue to send via e-mail links to these meetings.
Looking forward to seeing you all on the water at Shoreline on the 12th where the winds will be lighter and steady. If you cannot make it Shoreline for our on the water events be sure to join us for our regular scheduled zoom meetings. To join these very informative meeting just open the link I send you a few days prior to the meeting.
