Coffey Cup

The Coffey Cup is an annual award given to the person in the Fremont Sailing Club that has most helped out the club during the year to recognize their hard work, advice, volunteering, and enthusiasm.
The award was created back in 1969 and was first awarded to Charles Coffey who was the driving force behind the establishment of the club. For over 50 years it has been given to the many helpful sailors that have contributed to the club and made it possible to have our club today. It has been awarded in the recent past to many of our current sailors like, Vern & Nancy Tucker, Bruce Prickett, Jim Lechner, Harold Ho, Roy Jordan, John Christman and Joe and Cathy Doering. |

2025 - Earl Thomas

"While there are many people that routinely make our club races possible, Earl goes over and beyond and helps our club grow and get better. Under his leadership, he has effectively encouraged many members to participate in sail-a -dinghy day to help showcase the club and recruit new members. He has also strengthened our relationship with Shoreline and has resulted in mutual respect and willingness to work together. Most all of us know Chris and his staff now, and look forward to seeing him around the lake to just say 'Hi!'... and the discounts extended from Shoreline have been VERY appreciated. Earl has not only been a great mentor, he also encourages members share and learn from each other. He consistently hosts weekly zoom calls and encourages members to volunteer to bring snacks for after races. These actions have greatly resulted in more rewarding club experiences and growth in friendships. Behind the scenes, Earl works tirelessly to ensure the club is ready on every race day with club supplies, committee boat, qualified race committee volunteers and emergency health care (when needed). I feel eager to attend FSC events... but when I cannot make it, its Earl I feel I am letting down the most."
